What tourists love about Malta

Because of its size, Malta is often disregarded by tourists when they are looking for a vacation spot. While Europe and Mediterranean countries are generally popular, it is surprising that Malta is not as popular as it should be. Malta, after all, has something for everybody. The reason is for this unpopularity is simple: every few people know any about Malta. Malta, to them, is merely a small country in Europe. Even history has a lot to say about its smallness, a lot of foreign conquerors have complained about Malta because of its high population density. Because this is the only thing they know about Malta, people dismiss it. After all, what can be seen in such a small country?

But this is where tourists, who know very few things about Malta, are wrong. Although Malta is a very small country (one of the 100 smallest countries in the world, even), it is few with numerous attractions. After all, Malta has a rich culture due to its history. And this is past is a fact about Malta that tourists, at least those who have visited the country love. This dense historical value plus the country’s Mediterranean feel makes it a perfect vacation spot.

Those who are longing to have a deeper understanding of world history while enjoying the sites and sound of a Mediterranean paradise would enjoy Valetta, the country’s capital city. Valetta is listed as one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, one of the three in the country, because of its architectural wonders. Valetta houses an important Catholic landmark, the St. Johns Co-Cathedral, built during the 1570s. The Cathedral, in turn, houses the artwork “The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist,” by the artist Caravaggio, an important figure in the Baroque school of the arts. The other two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Malta are the Hypogeum of Hal-Saflieni and the Megalithic Temples such as Ggantija and Mnajdra, among others.

Of course, what tourists also love about Malta is its mixture of high-end cultural sites and contemporary leisure. As a Mediterranean country, Malta is home to numerous pristine beaches. Sources say that Malta is not exactly the best place to look for sandy beaches, as the country has more rocky beaches. Still, why people would love about Malta is the country’s abundance of water sports opportunities, such as diving, sailing, and jet skiing, among others. Malta also hosts an international windsurfing competition. The rates of these activities are comparatively cheaper in Malta compared to other popular tourist destination, making Malta a practical choice.

Malta’s nightlife is at par with many other popular nightlife spots in the world. Although the country may seem dated and archaic, its nightlife is hardly that, a fact that tourists find surprising about Malta. From the more conservative wine bars to the more provocative gay bars and other sites for adult entertainment, Malta has everything for everybody.

These are just some of the few sites tourists enjoy and love about Malta. This is why Malta should become one of Europe’s topmost tourist spots as its amenities and features are at par with the world’s best.
