St. Paul's Bay, Bugibba & Qawra
Three resorts
that are perched
on the coast and riddled with inlets, bays and a
promenade that links them.
St.Paul's Bay has a monumental place in Maltese history. It was
here that the Apostle Paul and St. Luke were washed ashore following
their shipwreck in AD60, bringing Christianity to Malta. Just off the
mainland is the islet named after the apostle, 'St. Paul's Island'. The
quaint fishing village is an idyllic setting, quiet and charming, yet
just a stroll away from the busy resort town of Bugibba.
Bugibba
is very popular with many British
holidaymakers. The main
centre of resort is pedestrianised
and here you will find lots
of gift
and jewellery shops, bars, cafeterias and restaurants. The resort
of Qawra is a further 10 minutes along the promenade.
Qawra, overlooks Salina, a popular bay during the summer months
for keen water sport enthusiasts. The lovely Qawra promenade runs for
3.6km to the picturesque St. Paul’s Bay, en
route passing the resort
of Bugibba. This resort area is also a very popular with the locals whom
flock to the area especially during the hot summer months. The resort also
boasts a number of bars, restaurants, casino, shops and the popular bus
terminus which services the area.

Sliema
Fashionable,
good shopping, fine cuisine,
cafe life with picturesque sea views!
Two seafronts make up this
popular resort. To the north, ‘Tower Road’ stretches as far as
neighboring St. Julian’s. And, to the south the area known
as ‘The Strand’ offers picture-postcard views across the harbour to
the capital, Valletta.
The total promenade
stretches some 5km, it is dotted with inlets and bays and if you enjoy
swimming in the sea you will find a long stretch of rocky beach to do it
from. During the mild winter days and cool summer nights the Sliema
promenade is a magnet for strollers, visitors and locals alike enjoying the popular 'passiggata' (the walk).
Sliema also caters for
most shopping tastes, with a plethora of international brand names
intermingled with small boutiques. It also has a bus
terminus which has good links to various popular places, a ferry service
to Valletta and is also home to the islands favourite cruise company,
Captain Morgan Cruises. But, if you want to escape this busy resort town
for more peaceful surroundings, a 10 minute stroll will take you to the
picturesque Yacht Marina which is located in Ta’Xbiex, just south of
Sliema Creek.

St.
Julian's Bay & St. George's Bay
By day
the bay in St.
Julian’s is one of the most photographed places in Malta, with its
charming harbours and picturesque fishing boats. The St. Julian’s
promenade links up with Sliema, ideal for those that enjoy walking, this
seafront stretches for some 5km plus.
For
the sun seekers, beach lidos are popular in this area, they provide
convenient and comfortable facilities and a newly enlarged sandy beach in
St. George's Bay has provided families with children a good base for
summertime recreation.
There are many good restaurants and the nearby area known as Paceville
is jammed to the rafters with bars and discos, this is the islands busiest
nightlife resort. A more pleasant evening can be found at the pretty Spinola
Bay which is surrounded by 'al fresco' dining
and also has a water taxi service (summer only) taking you to various
spots around the bay and
along the coast, a real romantic treat.
A variety of
shops can be found at Bay Street – a multi purpose leisure and shopping
venue that also has
a number of eateries including Hard Rock Cafe amongst other local and
themed restaurants. You may opt
for the cinema, all the latest blockbusters are available on 13 screens, a ten pin bowling alley, a casino and many
more entertainment venues all add to a fun filled holiday.

Valletta
Unlike most cities
worldwide, Valletta has surprisingly few hotels. However, staying here for
a holiday does have its rewards. Besides the numerous
sights around the city
to explore, the capital also has the main bus terminus, which
means that it is the perfect base for getting out and about.
The
city is very busy during the day with locals and tourists but amazingly
quiet at night. The city has
some superb restaurants, and if you happen to be in town during the
theatre season (October to May), why not visit the
Manoel Theatre and
watch one of the many local plays or musicals.

Mellieha
Commanding an elevated
position, this 15th century village has stunning views overlooking Ghadira
Bay. The imposing baroque church which is dedicated to ‘Our Lady of
Victories’ is one of the original parishes on the island. The all round
view takes in Malta's rural north with the web-like fields, rugged garigue
with bushy vegetation and the 600-metre long white sandy beach which lies
beneath the village, it is undoubtedly one of the best and most popular
beaches on the island.
Mellieha definitely has the charm and character of a typical Mediterranean
village and it is for this reason why many visitors return
here, year after year. Shops, bars and restaurants line the main street
and if you enjoy mixing with the locals there are a number of small local
village bars and band clubs!
There is one thing for sure, the locals will
definitely make you feel welcome.

Mdina
If you are
searching for a romantic setting, serenity or you want the unique opportunity of
staying in one the finest medieval cities, this is the right
choice.
Mdina sits majestically on a
high plateau in the middle of the island, away from the busy resort
towns and the Grand Harbour, it still is Malta’s patrician old capital;
set back in time, another age caught within its mellow walls. For more than 2,000 years Mdina has played a key role in the island’s
history. On a wider stage, as one of the few remaining fortified
medieval cities in the Mediterranean, it has special status.
The old city has a number of
interesting attractions and surrounding is the popular town of Rabat
with even more sights worth visiting. Restaurants are also plentiful, some offer
outstanding views overlooking all of Malta. As a base to explore the
islands, Mdina is very central making it an ideal base for getting out and
about.

Gozo Island
Like
most peaceful islands Gozo is diminutive, only 14km by 7km, one third the
size of Malta, but the island is no mere adjunct. The prehistoric stones
of Ggantija testify
to its long history, the mighty citadel at Victoria demonstrates how
important it was to both the Arabs and Romans.
The
island has many unique characteristics,
the island's proud emblem of the three green hills of Zebbug, Xaghra and Nadur,
quaint hilltop villages and the agricultural and fishing communities all
add to the essence of Gozo's appeal.
Gozo offers the
visitor a real get-away from it all ambience. It has stunning scenery,
beautiful bays and beaches, it is also considered as a mecca for scuba
diving enthusiasts.
