Itinerary
One
Pozzallo, Mount Etna and Taormina
Our
excursion takes the eastern route passing Noto, Syracusa and Catania en
route before arriving to Taormina.
Taormina is
a peaceful small medieval town,
built on a mountain side and located 2006m above sea level. Here you will
have free time to enjoy the quaint streets lined with curiosity shops,
boutiques and local tavernas. The Greek Theatre is also worth visiting
even if it just to enjoy the views from the unique location. You will also
have ample time for lunch before we depart (lunch is not included).
The tour then departs for
Europe's most active volcano, Mount Etna.
The
drive up the Mount Etna mountain slopes takes us through picturesque
villages and an ever changing landscape. The lower slopes of the volcano
are extremely fertile with groves of oranges, lemons and other
Mediterranean flora and of course vines which produce Sicily's best wines.
We go through forests of chestnut trees which gradually give way to oak,
beech, birch and pine. During our tour of Mount Etna we visit the
Sylvester Craters.
Our
return takes us across the Iblei Mountain Range and over two of the most
spectacular bridges in Europe, with a wonderful view of the baroque city
of Modica. |

Itinerary
Two
Pozzallo, Catania, Mount Etna and Modica
Our excursion starts with a visit to Pozzallo and short stop for coffee.
We continue along the east side of Sicily passing Syracusa and Noto en
route before arriving at our first stop in Catania.
Catania
has both a history and a very active present. We will stop in the centre
of the city where you will have the time to visit the Piazza del Duomo,
surrounded on all sides by baroque monuments and the central lava Fontana
Elefante, which is the monumental symbol of the city. You can take a
stroll along via Etnea, where you will find shops, an impressive outdoor
market and food market. You will also have enough time for lunch (not
included in the price).
The
tour then continues with a visit to Mount Etna. During your visit to Mount
Etna you may wish to take a 4x4 drive to the summit, up to 2900m or a
cable car ride up to 2500. These can be booked during the tour and the
cost is between EUR20.00 to EUR25.00 per person.
Our
final stop will then visit the Baroque city of Modica to enjoy some time
in the city centre and the popular "Il Corso". Modica once so important as
to constitute a kingdom within the kingdom, is today a prosperous town
still dependent on its traditional agricultural economy. The beautiful
flight of steps leading to the main entrance and the statues representing
the twelve apostles are the main features of S. Pietro's church. The main
street or "Corso", with it's mixture of magnificent buildings, modern
shops and al fresco cafes. It is a thriving town centre. |
