Day One
Pozzallo, Mount Etna and Taormina,
Pozzallo
Our
excursion takes the eastern route passing Noto, Syracusa and Catania en
route before arriving to Taormina.
Taormina is
a peaceful small medieval town,
built on a mountain side and located 2006m above sea level. Here you will
have free time to enjoy the quaint streets lined with curiosity shops,
boutiques and local tavernas. The Greek Theatre
(€6.00 per person)
is also worth visiting
even if it just to enjoy the views from the unique location. You will also
have ample time for lunch before we depart (lunch is not included).
The tour then departs for
Europe's most active volcano, Mount Etna.
The
drive up the Mount Etna mountain slopes takes us through picturesque
villages and an ever changing landscape. The lower slopes of the volcano
are extremely fertile with groves of oranges, lemons and other
Mediterranean flora and of course vines which produce Sicily's best wines.
We go through forests of chestnut trees which gradually give way to oak,
beech, birch and pine. During our tour of Mount Etna we visit the
Sylvester Craters.
Our
return takes us across the Iblei Mountain Range and over two of the most
spectacular bridges in Europe, with a wonderful view of the baroque city
of Modica.
We end our
tour back in Pozzallo where you check-in to the Conte di Cabrera for you
overnight stay, dinner is included.
Day Two
Pozzallo,
Piazza Armerina, Catlagirone, Modica, Pozzallo
After breakfast, check-out of your hotel. Your driver will pick-up for a full day of sightseeing.
Today you
will be visiting two very interesting places, our first stop will be in Piazza
Armerina.
Our drive
will take us
through beautiful scenery until we reach the Roman Villa (3rd, 4rth century
A.D.) at Casale (€6.00 per person)
with its
3.500 square metres of mosaic flooring giving an insight into the Roman way of
living. After
our visit to the Roman Villa you will have free time for some lunch.
Our next stop
is Caltagirone, renowned for its
ceramic ware and its impressive flight of 142 steps known as Scala S.Maria
del Monte and all decorated with local and coloured maiolica tiles. After
viewing the workmanship you will have some free time for shopping.
Our journey
back towards Pozzallo will take us via the baroque city of Modica. If time
allows we will also stop here.
The main street or "Corso", with it's mixture of magnificent buildings, modern
shops and al fresco cafes, it is a thriving town centre.
Our tour comes to an end in
Pozzallo for our departure back to Malta.
On arrival at
Valletta port you will be met by our driver for a transfer to your hotel.
