Tour Description

The Malta Defender tour is like no other tour because of the diverse itinerary we have prepared for you. The transport is comfortable, air conditioned and accompanied an experienced chauffeur who will explain the sites during the tour.

We start off this tour visiting the northern part of the island and including Mizieb, the Red Tower and Popeye's Village. Here we will have a short stop for photos and if you would like to have a wander around the Popeye Village we will allow you the time (entrance fee is not included). We continue with tour taking 'off road' route (a bit bumpy but totally safe) towards the stunning Golden Bay, then onto the small town of Mgarr, making our way to Fomm ir-Rih - a stunning location offering breathtaking views of the natural bay. Next stop is the medieval city of Mdina and here you will approx. 40 minutes to explore this small ancient city and take a walk through quaint streets and alleys.

The next part of the tour visit two popular towns - Mosta and the famous Mosta Dome, you will have some time to visit this infamous church which has one of the largest unsupported in the Word! We proceed the next town. which is Naxxar. The pretty piazza (centre) is surrounded by typical Maltese townhouses, some of which are over 500 years old. You will have some free time for photos or you can grab a drink at one the small bars before we proceed to our lunch stop. A 3 course lunch with mineral water and wine is included.

The final part of the day will take us to the great grand harbour and the south of the island. We start with panoramic drive around Valletta's perimeter so you can admire the sheer size of the fortified walls which adorn our wonderful harbour. We then cross the harbour to visit visit the oldest maritime city of Vittoriosa or otherwise known as Birgu. The origins of this city date back to 200BC and it has been an important location over the years for many occupiers, the most important being the Knights of St. John in 1530. Our tour continues to neolithic temples of Tarxien (you may visit the temples, however the entrance fee is not included), the pretty fishing villages of Marsaxlokk (for a short photo stop) and we end at the beautiful Blue Grotto. Here you will have free time to take the optional boat trip along the coast and into the caves. At this stage the tour comes to an end and we make our way back.

First class. Martin (Marteen?)was outstanding as driver AND guide. We were able to vary the route and the stops more or less as we wanted. Can you give me the name of someone who matters at Captain Morgan - I'd like to drop them a note to commend him?

Tour was as described. Guide was friendly but disengaged, not too excited about being there.

Friendly driver who drove safely and visited sites as stated in the itinerary but unfortunately spoke very limited English. He provided brief information on the population of towns/villages we passed and where certain films were shot, but little else to give much of an insight into Malta and its history. Lunch was passable.Travelling around narrow/bumpy sideroads was quite good fun but overall rather disappointing in terms of the insight into Malta we were hoping for.

Ended up in back of defender, very uncomfortable, too much just driving around, would like to have done boat ride at Blue Grotto.

A Jeep tour does include a lot of driving around, that is the whole idea. But there several photo stops and also free time at certain sites. Blue Grotto boat trip is optional as specified in the description, but unless the weather is suitable the boats do not operate...there is very little one can do about the weather.

the tour itself was very interesting and well organized. Manuel, our guide, was an expert and made the trip a success. A very decent meal.

Amazing Tour, We did see most of the attractions. Of course there will be short amount of time in each attraction. but we had about 13 spots to cover in a half day, it is a good tour to know all the best places and you can come back in another day to the places that you liked the most and spent more time. Again a recommend.

Sights, particularly, Blue Grotto and surrounds by boat is a must do. Guide, Emmanuel, with his his indepth knowledge of history and knowledge of Malta, including agriculture, patiently shares it with us. He also willingly and is flexible enough to accommodate an additional request to view an additional attraction. Driving too is good.
